I specialise in lighting design for residential projects, whether you're working on a new build or an extension. My expertise covers the full spectrum of lighting design, from initial concept design through to detailed and construction design. I also provide lighting procurement services, ensuring the right fixtures are selected with industry discounts, and oversee the commissioning process to ensure everything is set up and functioning as intended. My goal is to bring thoughtful, tailored lighting solutions to each project.

Concept Design

After working closely with clients and, when necessary, the broader design team—including the architect and interior designer—I develop a bespoke lighting concept tailored to the project. This concept is documented in a comprehensive report, featuring precedent imagery and key layouts. To fully convey the design intent, I include sketch layouts that visually illustrate the lighting effects and overall aesthetic. During the Concept Presentation, we review lighting controls, switching, colour temperatures and architectural lighting products, along with proposing a lighting budget.

Detail Design

In this phase, the lighting design concept is translated into detailed documentation, including PDF markups, with any client feedback incorporated - and for an additional fee CAD-drawn Reflected Ceiling Plans (RCPs) can also be provided. I also create a comprehensive Luminaire Schedule and Budget, specifying both architectural and decorative light fittings (if not already covered by an interior designer). This stage also covers any critical installation details. Before finalising, a second revision ensures everything is accurate, and once completed, the full set of lighting design documents is provided, ready for electrical and control system pricing and installation coordination.

Procurement

While it’s possible for the project builder or electrical contractor to handle procurement, it tends to run more smoothly when I manage this phase. With my attention to detail and established connections in the industry, I’m able to reduce errors and secure the best pricing, ensuring a seamless process and added value for my clients.

Commisioning

Commissioning is often the step that makes all the difference in lighting design. It’s not just about flicking a switch or adding lights to a scene—this is where the design truly comes to life. During commissioning, I work closely with automation and programming technicians to fine-tune the lighting setup, ensuring each light is mapped to the right switches for optimal functionality. We’ll adjust the dimming levels across different switches to create the perfect ambiance, whether it’s for a cozy dinner, a relaxing evening, or entertaining in the garden. This process always brings that “wow” factor, leaving clients thrilled with the results.
